Michael McSweeney is a freelance performer, bandleader, educator, and arts administrator/entrepreneur based in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) region. In addition to being a current Artist in Residence at Strathmore, he has performed in various areas of the United States as well as in Ghana, Trinidad, Colombia, and Bali with a wide variety of experience including Salsa (and many other derivatives of Afro-Caribbean popular music), Ewe drumming, Global Fusion, Jazz, Pop, Classic and Modern Musicals, Classical and Modern Orchestral Music, and more. He actively works with his Salsa and Latin Variety band, Costas Colectivo (previously Salsa del Norte), his global fusion group Hiraeth Project, and other local projects as a side man and session musician.
